Sampling process
Number of subjects: 40
Target population: NYP
students
Sampling process:
Purposive sampling
Venue: Classroom H504
Time: Done in one
session, in approximately 3 hours
Reason for choosing purposive sampling:
Purposive sampling was
chosen as we required our candidates to fulfill our criteria.
The criteria are:
- Participants must not be suffering/have suffered from any upper limb or lower limb injury in their life.
- Participants must be between 20 to 30 years old.
Data collection
For our data collection, two measuring tapes,
of length 60 inches each, were used.
Measuring tape calibration
The measuring tapes
used in this experiment are meant to be used for sewing. They are soft and
flexible.
The measuring tapes
were compared side by side to ensure that the measurement units were identical
and that they were not altered by wear-and-tear, stretching and other events
that could have altered the measurement units.
The two measuring tapes are identical in their measurement units.
How we went about collecting samples
We chose Classroom H504
as it was spacious and have more floor space to conduct the research. There
were no chairs or tables that were restricting us. The classroom also required
students to remove their shoes before entering. This made it more convenient
for us and the participants as they would not be held up at the foot measuring
station.
For our chosen
subjects, we
- Explained to our subjects of our motive and answer any doubts that they might have
- Get their consent and their age
- Two person to measure the foot length and two person to measure forearm length
- One person to record all the lengths
Things we used during the
data collection:
- Two measuring tapes
- Scotch tape
- A table and chair for participant to sit while taking measurement of forearm
- Rulers to act as an endpoint of measurement
Set-up for data
collection:
- Tape one measuring tape on the floor, starting from the edge of the wall
- Set up a chair and table next to the wall. Participants will have to push their elbows against the wall.
